People who previously had been left out of the health insurance marketplace, are now able to obtain health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
The law was designed to make health insurance more accessible. Approximately 47 million people in America lack health insurance for a variety of reasons. The Affordable Care Act is supposed to eliminate that and make sure every American has healthcare coverage.
Obamacare has been very controversial, especially states like Oklahoma and Texas, the market served by Schwager Insurance Services. Some people fear that it will make health insurance prices go up, even though the federal government claims it is supposed to make prices go down. It remains to be seen precisely what will happen with rates, but nonetheless, the ACA is the law of the land and was implemented in the fall of 2013.
BENEFITS OF OBAMACARE
If you are one of the 47 million currently without health insurance, you should now be able to get it. No longer can you be turned down for a having pre-existing condition. No longer can you be hit with lifetime caps on coverage. Children are allowed to remain on their parent’s policy until they are 26 years old.
Under Obamacare, citizens are required to buy a health insurance policy from one of the many insurance companies offering healthcare coverage. The policies DO NOT come from the government. The policies come from existing insurance companies that you are probably already familiar with, such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
If you are unable to afford a health insurance policy, and your income meets the criteria set by the government, then you probably will qualify for a subsidy. This means the government, will pay a portion of your policy.
HOW IS OBAMACARE DIFFERENT IN OKLAHOMA AND TEXAS?
Even though the Affordable Care Act is a federal statue, how it works differs a little bit from state to state. Some states, like Oklahoma and Texas, decided to minimize their participation in the program. Since many people in Oklahoma and Texas are not in favor of the Affordable Care Act politically, their state governments made certain decisions which affect the way the law will work there.
If you’re a resident of either Oklahoma or Texas, we at Schwager Insurance Services can assist you in exploring your new options for healthcare insurance. That’s why we set up this website!
The easiest thing for you to do, is limit your search to JUST the few insurance companies in Oklahoma and Texas who are participating in the Affordable Care Act programs.
One of the biggest differences between how the law will function here in Oklahoma and Texas and many other states is that we are not participating in the federal exchanges.
The federal exchanges list policies from insurance companies all over the country.
People living in states participating in the federal exchanges can buy any of them.
Since OK and TX aren’t part of these exchanges, people here are limited to buying from companies who were already operating in Oklahoma and Texas.
Oklahoma and Texas residents need not worry however, they can still find great policies. Being off exchange really means the whole process will be easier for you. You DO NOT have to even bother going to the Health Care dot gov site that has had so many glitches and problems.
You can find everything you need without bothering to visit that site, create a account or anything like that. Our website has direct links to all the options you have here in Oklahoma and Texas.
Neither Oklahoma or Texas set up a website for the Obamacare Healthcare Exchange, but some individual insurance companies operating in the state did. As an independent insurance broker operating in both states, I work with all these companies.
I have links on this site to those insurance companies.
